Toward Ubiquitous Satisficing Agent Control
نویسندگان
چکیده
The dynamics and unpredictability of open environments pose a challenge to agent development. Agents operating in these environments must be able to adapt processing to the available resources and the current problem solving context. The ability to satisfice ubiquitously, in all aspects of agent problem solving, is the key to existing in these environments.

Satisficing Control for Multi-agent Formation Maneuvers
In this paper, robustly satisficing controls based on control Lyapunov functions are applied to multi-agent formation problems. We show that under certain conditions a group of satisficing control laws chosen from the robustly satisficing set can guarantee bounded formation keeping error, finite completion time, and reasonable formation velocity as well as inverse optimality and desirable stabi...
متن کاملA Decentralised Approach to Multi-robot Formation Initialisation
This paper presents a novel solution to the formation initialisation problem, in which autonomous mobile robots must arrange themselves into a specific geometric configuration without centralised control, without explicit inter-agent communication, and using only information from local sensors which is necessarily incomplete. Our solution to this fundamental multi-robot coordination problem is ...
متن کاملThe Effects of Satisficing Models on Coordination
We are currently engaged in investigating intelligent agent societies from a macro-level view, by defining certain emergent variables that describe the behavior of such systems and investigating relationships between these variables. Part of this research investigates the role played by satisficing models in coordination within intelligent agent societies. This paper discusses the tradeoffs bet...
متن کاملSatisficing Negotiation for Resource Allocation with Disputed Resources
Satisficing decision making provides a more malleable framework for negotiation than conventional techniques based on optimization of a utility function. In this paper we summarize satisficing decision theory, which provides a mechanism for determining decision options which are “good enough” as as tradeoff between a selectability function and a rejectability function, with an index of caution ...
متن کاملOptimal Satisficing
Herbert Simon introduced the notion of satisficing to explain how boundedly rational agents might approach difficult sequential decision problems. His satisficing decision makers were offered as an alternative to optimizers, who have impressive computational capacities which allow them to maximize. There is no reason, however, why satisficers can not do their task optimally. In this paper, we p...
